About Green-Cheeked Conures

Green-cheeked conures are among the most popular companion parrots due to their playful, affectionate, and intelligent nature. Known for packing a “big personality in a small body,” they enjoy interaction, can learn simple words, and even perform fun tricks like lying on their backs, giving “kisses,” shaking, hanging upside down, minor tool use, and potty training.

Vocalization and Training

Green-cheeked conures are generally quiet, making them suitable for apartment living. With patience and training, they can develop a limited vocabulary and learn a variety of tricks. Young birds may occasionally bite, but with consistent handling and socialization, this behavior quickly fades within the first few months.

Lifespan & Diet

When properly cared for, green-cheeked conures can live 25–30 years in captivity. Unfortunately, average lifespans are often shorter (10–15 years) due to neglect or improper diet.
